Am I ever going to get any better?

One of the first thoughts that I wake up to in the morning, besides thinking about my family and responsibilities, is I wonder how I can better serve my customers.   It might sound cliche, but I started this career because I wanted to help people.  And I’m proud to say that I do.  I read stories all day long about how customers are finally feeling the effects of natural supplements.  “It’s not that medications don’t work,” someone might say, “it’s that a lot of medications lead to new and different problems.”

NSAIDs for instance, a commonly prescribed medication, or many of us know them as over-the-counter pain relievers, seem fine at first, but long term use can lead to a plethora of problems.  “We have always known that NSAIDs can cause potentially deadly stomach complications, but the extent of the impact on the small intestine was largely unknown until now,” said David Graham, MD, lead study author. “The introduction of video capsule endoscopy gave us an opportunity to examine the small intestine and learn that NSAIDs can cause severe damage to this organ.”-sciencedaily

Our intestines account for 75% to 80% of our immune system.  Ruining our ability to digest food properly is like damaging the engine of a plane.  The only direction the body has to go once the damage is done, is downward.  “Certain NSAIDs are associated with an increase in heart attacks and strokes. Some of these drugs have been removed from the market.  Prolonged NSAID use increases the risk of kidney damage, especially when they are combined with certain blood pressure medications.”-ehow

“Once you understand natural medical principles, it is easy to see that any drug is not the solution for a chronic degenerative disease.  Although it may seem to provide some initial benefit, the long-term overall view is rarely appreciated, as it nearly invariably shows a combination of side effects that far outweighs any benefit.-Dr. Mercola (from the dangers of aspirin)

I met a girl recently who was suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Some of the damage that the disease did to her body was clearly visible, even though a lot of the damage going on in her body cannot be seen.  Though a young girl in her late 20’s, she was in a wheelchair with arms and legs suffering from deformity.  She was now turning to alternative methods to dealing with her RA because for years now, she hasn’t been able to take any medications.  Certain medications including methotrexate and NSAIDS had done such severe damage to her liver that she was no longer advised to be on those medications.

Although I believe science and medications can really do wonders, I also notice all too often, the amount of potential damage.  I completely understand that we’re all just trying to make the best decisions possible, and it’s all about quality of life.  I recommend supplements, not just because I sell them, but more so, because I believe in them.  I have seen miracles happen with people who were at their last straw.  It’s those stories that keep me energized to do things like write this blog, so that all of you can see my enthusiasm and perhaps get a glimpse of the potential possibilities in the world of alternative treatments.
